Mar Capeans is Senior Scientist at CERN. She holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), and an MBA in Management of Technology from the EPFL and the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). She joined CERN in 1992 and since then she has participated in the design and construction of several particle detectors for experiments at CERN. From 2012 to 2017 she led the Detector Technologies Group.
Afterwards, she moved to the Technology Department in the Accelerator Sector to lead the Planning, Project and Resources Group. In 2019 she was appointed Upgrade Technical Coordinator of the CMS experiment at the LHC. Since 2021, she is Head of the Site and Civil Engineering (SCE) Department at CERN. The SCE vision is to create an inspiring and welcoming environment for CERN’s scientific community now and in the future.
