Michael Krisch

Michael Krisch is International Research & Innovation Programmes Manager at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF).

Krisch holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Dortmund. He is a solid-state physicist with a particular interest in the investigation of the magnetic and electronic structure and dynamics of materials, studies at extremes of pressure and temperature, and X-ray instrumentation. He has more than 30 years of experience in X-ray science, working at DESY, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the ESRF.

In 1996 he became a scientist in charge of the ID28 beamline project (Inelastic scattering II), and in 2013 he took over the responsibility of Upgrade beamline ID20 (UPBL6). He served as Deputy Group Head of the High Resolution and Resonance Scattering Group from 2002 to 2009 and as Group Head of the Dynamics and Extreme Conditions Group from 2009 to 2015.

From 2015 to 2019 he was the Head of the Instrumentation Services and Development Division, in charge of the ESRF’s instrumentation programme encompassing optics, detectors, mechanics, electronics, and software and control. From 2019 to 2022 he was a scientist in charge of the biomedical beamline ID17 with focus on Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT). Michael was the Coordinator of the ESRF-UP and CRISP FP7 grants.
