The CBI.ATTRACT is an international Open Innovation program aimed at societal innovation and inspired by cutting-edge detection and imaging technologies developed under the ATTRACT initiative. Its purpose is to foster an entrepreneurial mindset, utilizing innovative technologies with a mission to address societal challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It targets students from the University of Bologna, the University of Ferrara, and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, who are supported by Almacube, in charge of the methodological approach. They are placed into multidisciplinary teams to work together for 16 weeks, investigating breakthrough technologies, exploiting their potential, and developing relevant solutions to solve society, human, and ecosystem needs. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to collaborate closely with researchers and industry experts to bring their ideas to life.
Employing a hybrid methodology that integrates Design Thinking with Tech-Driven Innovation processes, the CBI.ATTRACT program empowers student teams to navigate through the phases of discovery, design, and development.
CBI.ATTRACT 2023-24 edition
The current edition of this program started in February 2024 and is composed of 30 students from the three universities, divided into five multidisciplinary teams who are working around some of the ATTRACT technologies: AHEAD, Glass2Mass, POSICS-2, HipMed and h-cube.
Students have engaged in different activities, including Team Working workshops, Design thinking and Tech-to-Market classes, as well as meetings with some tech partners, among many others. Additionally, they had the chance to visit IdeaSquare, CERN’s open innovation space, during the Collision Week to continue learning and work closely with researchers on their projects.
In their Final Presentation, students will need to develop a functional prototype of their proposed solution and an implementation strategy.
