What has the ATTRACT seed funding enabled you to do so far?
We have long wanted to test the imaging algorithms developed for non-destructive testing on medical applications. A specific code dedicated to the calculation of ultrasonic paths through a solid wall has been developed and tested on simulated data. The objective was to detect and image solid spheres through a skull, described by a sphere and then by a 3D surface described by a CAD file. Very promising results have been obtained.
What challenges have you faced so far?
The main difficulty concerns the processing of experimental data, and in particular the exact repositioning of the probe in relation to the real geometry of the skull. Tests are in progress on data carried out on a skull phantom bought within the framework of the project.
Where does your ATTRACT journey go from here?
Field measurements in transmission through several skulls are planned in the very short term to validate the ultrasonic field calculation model. In parallel, we will finalize the experimental validation of the imagery code on the skull phantom.
Sum up in two sentences the advantages of the ATTRACT Programme over other research funding schemes.
This project format makes it possible to initiate developments very quickly and to offer proofs of concepts in the very short term. If the results are satisfactory, more ambitious developments can be envisaged over a longer term.
