The Random Power project was recently showcased at the “From Blocks to Qubits” roundtable, organised by the venture capital firms LIFTT and Fulgur Ventures, along with the Canada-based blockchain technology company Blockstream, at the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin. The event focused on exploring Bitcoin’s evolution, tracing its origins, and addressing the challenges presented by quantum computing and digital surveillance.
The event featured a conversation between two leading figures in the fields of blockchain and secure systems: Massimo Caccia, founder and CEO of Random Power, and Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream and creator of Hashcash.
During the discussion, Caccia contributed insights from the Random Power project, which focuses on the generation of secure and verifiable randomness, a critical element for safeguarding digital infrastructures against emerging quantum threats.
In addition, the conversation addressed key questions about the future resilience of Bitcoin’s architecture, the implications of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), and the growing tension between privacy, state control, and financial autonomy.
“Quantum computer can be a threat for our digital life, but quantum effects can also be a solution: from Quantum Random Number Generation, what we do at Random Power, to Quantum Key Distribution and then Post-Quantum Cryptography, the three pillars of quantum resiliency”, stated Massimo Caccia, coordinator of Random Power.
Throughout the conversation, both experts tried to answer these questions: What does it mean to preserve autonomy online? And how can Bitcoin, born as a tool of resistance, remain relevant in a world defined by quantum leaps and shrinking privacy?
