The Technology for Social Innovation (TeSI) is a program under ATTRACT Academy whose goal is to link CERN’s open science, technology, and expertise to address societal challenges. It focuses on social needs by identifying disruptive applications and business models for cutting-edge technologies developed under the ATTRACT initiative.
TeSI targets students from business management from the Master in Business Analytics from Esade, Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Science from UPC and design from IED Barcelona, who are placed into multidisciplinary teams to work for 15 weeks around cutting-edge technologies in the early stages following a user-centred design process (Design Thinking and Lean Start-up).
During the program, students get to learn to develop and assess the potential impact of novel technologies in addressing societal needs, to lead work in an explorative project involving constant reflection and adaptation to new information as it is acquired, and the ability to communicate and argue for decisions made in the context of an innovation project, among others.
TeSI 2022-23 edition
The current edition of TeSI, coordinated by Esade, is composed of 37 students from the three schools and are divided into six multidisciplinary teams that are working around ATTRACT Technologies to find Social Innovation Applications.
The students had the chance to travel to CERN and during their stay, they could interact with researchers of some of the R&D&I projects from ATTRACT phase 2: Glass2Mass, HYGER and MEGAMORPH to find novel solutions for its applications.
The multidisciplinary teams will develop a new solution concept and present a prototype and business model in the Final Presentation of the course that will be held at Fusion Point, Esade on May 26th.
