The Random Power project (RaP!) harnesses quantum mechanics to generate an unpredictable and secure stream of random bits—strings of virtually infinite length, fundamental to any cryptographic process. Designed to safeguard the privacy and security of our digital lives, this breakthrough will be presented by Massimo Caccia, the project’s coordinator, and his team at the Embedded World Trade Fair from April 9 to 11 in Nuremberg, Germany.
In this annual event, gathering the entire embedded system industrial and developer community, exhibitors from around the world present their forefront products and solutions dedicated to the Internet-of-Things: hardware, software, systems engineering, safety and security, system-on-chip design, embedded vision, human-machine interaction, wired and wireless data transfer and, autonomous systems.
Attendees will be able to see a live demo of the Random Power platform, with the single and multiple generator boards in operation. On-line bit streams will be qualified in real-time and used to generate random numbers according to different probability distribution functions, together with a live Monte Carlo simulation for the calculation of π and a procedure for refilling the LINUX entropy pool. The RaP! Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), expected to be back from the foundry late in April, will be officially announced.
“Participating in this event, possibly the most important of the year in the field, represents an excellent opportunity to highlight the state-of-play at Random Power and to establish valuable connections for the exploitation of our platform and further co-development,” Massimo Caccia remarked.
Random Power is led by the Università degli studi dell’Insubria in collaboration with two research universities: AGH University of Science & Technology and Fondazione Bruno Kessler; and six companies: E4-Computer Engineering, IMASENIC, NAGRA Kudelski, SECO, Weeroc, and Random Power s.r.l., the company spun off during the project execution.
