Quinas Technology, a spinout from Lancaster University, has been named one of the 30 global finalists in the 2025 WIPO Global Awards, organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization – the United Nations agency for innovation and intellectual property. Selected from over 780 applications across 95 countries, Quinas is acknowledged for its groundbreaking ULTRARAM™ memory technology and its strategic use of intellectual property (IP) to drive innovation and societal impact.
ULTRARAM™ represents a significant advancement in memory technology by combining the speed of DRAM with the non-volatility of flash memory in a single device. This innovation offers ultra-low power consumption and exceptional endurance, making it suitable for applications ranging from data centres to space technology. Its development is supported by the ATTRACT initiative, which focuses on fostering early-stage, high-risk research with the potential for significant societal benefits.
The WIPO Global Awards recognise startups and SMEs that are using IP to turn innovation and creativity into impactful, real-world solutions from sustainable technologies and digital health to food innovation and creative industries.
“As a company that is commercialising a new memory technology in a sector where intellectual property is of paramount importance, the significance of this prestigious validation by WIPO cannot be overstated. We are delighted to have been shortlisted for an award”,
commented Manus Hayne, ULTRARAM™ project coordinator, Chief Scientific Officer at Quinas and Professor at Lancaster University.
It is worth noting that the finalists of this fourth edition are grouped into five categories: Health, Environment, ICT, Creative Industries, and Agrifood. They were selected based on four key criteria: the strength of their business case and current IP portfolio, their future growth potential and international IP strategy, the integration of IP culture within the company, and their overall impact on building a better society. The winners will be officially announced during the WIPO General Assemblies in Geneva on July 11, 2025.
