What has the ATTRACT seed funding enabled you to do so far?
ATTRACT seed funding allowed me to bring to test a bold hypothesis: that we can image efficient host immune response against tumours, which can push therapy response monitoring to a higher level. Local changes produced by response in tissue features, extracted with advanced machine learning, are answering our question with promising results in brain tumours.
What challenges have you faced so far?
Working in vivo (preclinical models) is always challenging, since it is time/resources consuming. Prospective data to validate retrospective predictors are being accumulated with a certain delay due to MR equipment repairs, but we are confident to achieve the MAGRes goals within the given time frame.
Where does your ATTRACT journey go from here?
We have tested state-of-the-art approaches in MR image analysis, reinforced existing collaborations, and applied for additional multilateral collaborations (ITN, ERA-NET, other) to extend and translate MAGRes. ATTRACT second phase is also in the skyline.
Sum up in two sentences the advantages of the ATTRACT Programme over other research funding schemes.
- ATTRACT accepts innovative, high risk high gain proposals, succinctly described, with fast evaluation and fast start after being granted.
- Idea development allows for flexibility, agency monitoring/reporting is frequent but sensible, allowing teams to concentrate on work to be done within the project.
